when their music was everywhere; on the radio, in the movies and on television. Their popularity continue today as new generations of fans discover the timeless treasures found in their music.
Their utterly distinctive & riveting take on pop music earned them more than 20 top ten hits atop the charts, where they were perched for about 10 years.
The string of hits (I Say a Little Prayer, Walk On By, Do You Know The Way to San Jose, You’ll Never Get To Heaven If You Break My Heart, The Look of Love) kept coming and found some of the greatest singers of the day such as Dusty Springfield, Jerry Butler, Aretha Franklin, & most prominently,
Dionne Warwick, lining up to sing the next Bacharach-David smash.
Julia Nixon has been one Washington’s finest and most popular singers for more than 30 years,
going back to a decade long residency at Mr. Henry’s. She had a lead role on Broadway in ‘Dreamgirls’, and won a Helen Hayes award for her work in Studio Theaters ‘Caroline or Change’.
Her longtime pianist Dave Ylvisaker leads a superlative 12 person band complete with horns, strings and backing vocalists to capture the magic found in Bacharach’s arrangements. The band includes some of the area’s most accomplished musicians including Chuck Underwood, Robbie Magruder, Scott Giambusso, Al Williams, Zack Smith, Mike Mills, Nicholas Nixon, Margot MacDonald, Deeme Katson. and Elizabeth Lademan

Jon began his career with the Grammy winning Starland (Afternoon Delight) Vocal Band and has continued on an artistically versatile path as a sought after collaborator, performer, songwriter, composer and all around musician.
His songs have been recorded by artists such as Linda Ronstadt (Get Closer) and Tom Jones, all the while contributing his stylings on stage and in studio with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Cheryl Wheeler, Rodney Crowell, John Jennings, John Gorka, John McCutcheon, Peter Wolf, Dennis Brennan, Eric Lindell, Dixie Chicks as well as his own groups, such as Jon Carroll & BraveSoul in New England.
Over the years, his solo works Home & Away, Love Returns and LiVE Returns—Live from The Barns at Wolf Trap, have garnered over 20 Washington Area Music Assoc. “Wammie” Awards and his dynamic shows are comprised of influences from across the Folk/Blues/R&B/Rock/Jazz cultural spectrum forming a rich repertoire of regional sensibilities that plot a soulful journey through story and song.
Newly residing in Northampton, MA, Jon returns regularly from various tours keep his native DC home fires burning with numerous shows and sessions, and he’s utterly thrilled to be returning to Hamilton Live to see his hometown buds!
