In Gratitude: A Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire
IN GRATITUDE: A Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire
In Gratitude: A Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire pays homage to one of the most prolific musical ensembles in history. Offering an impressive body of familiar EWF tunes, specifically those from the classic years, 1973 – 1985, the 13 piece band evokes a nostalgic listen to a legend that today, with new music and an expansion of an illustrious career, still has many more years to come.
In the spring of 2009, In Gratitude gathered the best musicians in the Baltimore/Washington area under the leadership of co-founder and lead singer Gene McBride. Inspired by The Elements since childhood, and with a strong falsetto of his own reminiscent of the master Phillip Bailey, McBride was excited at the prospect of audiences everywhere sharing the EWF experience. Along with co-founders and master musicians Robert “WaWA” LeGrand and brothers Greg and Gary Grainger, McBride pulled together other noted musicians and vocalists. With The Grainger brothers, original members of Pockets (an area band produced by EWFs Verdine White), In Gratitude possesses hat something special that separates this band from other tribute productions. Today, In Gratitude consists of additional members who perform(ed) regularly with Prince, Whitney Houston, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Patti LaBelle, Kim Waters, The Chuck Brown Band, Teddy Pendergrass, Phyllis Hyman and others.
But offering more than just fabulous musicians, In Gratitude brings a major production to the stage. Creative choreography, special lighting and visuals, comedy, trivia—every show is a crowd pleasing performance. In Gratitude has performed in major metro DC venues annually selling out The Birchmere, Rams Head on Stage, and Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club and filling venues such as Fort Dupont (DC), The Hamilton (DC), Tally Ho (VA), Maryland Live Casino (MD), Harrington’s Casino (DE), to name a few. Additionally, In Gratitude has toured the east coast performing in Virginia, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and New York.
In 2016, In Gratitude released its own recording, Message in the Music, inspired by the philosophies of peace and global love offered by EWF. The single has received airplay on WHUR FM and other area stations and is available on CD Baby.
