THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS WITH NORSIDE
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21

The New Mastersounds have been delighting audiences with their infectious brand of funky soul-jazz since they formed in Leeds, England in 1999. For the first five years of the band’s career they were regulars at the Jazz Café in London, before they began to turn heads on the funk scene in the US, where guitarist/producer/bandleader Eddie Roberts now lives. For over a decade they have been a staple act of the late-night scene during New Orleans’ annual Jazz Fest. Always happy to hit the studio between tours, this veteran band now boasts a rich recorded catalogue that includes fifteen original studio albums, four live albums, several compilations, and a remix album.

Though they have collaborated over the years with such musical luminaries as Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Corinne Bailey Rae, Art Neville, Bernard Purdie and Lou Donaldson, they are at their best on stage as a tightly-packed quartet – bass, drums, guitar and keyboards – firing off scorching grooves and feeding on the energy of the dancers in the front row.

ANDY FALCO & TRAVIS BOOK PLAY JERRY GARCIA
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23

Andy Falco and Travis Book are both members of the Grammy award winning bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters. Inspired by their love of the music of Jerry Garcia, the duo branches off on their own for occasional tours to celebrate Garcia’s timeless songs. “The project actually originated back stage at ‘Dusters shows where Travis and I would typically warm up with some fun Jerry songs” Falco explains. “At some point we just thought it would be fun to do it in public”.

They draw from Garcia’s solo material, his Grateful Dead catalogue as well as the Traditional songs Jerry loved to play. “Performing this music as a duo allows us to explore the songs and jam in a way that’s unique to playing as a Duo” Says Book. “We typically hear these songs in larger ensembles, but the songs done with just bass and guitar somehow make the music very interactive with the audience. It’s really a testament to the quality of the songwriting, and we like to put a spotlight on that aspect of Jerry.”

TOTALLY BOWIE + JERRY TRIPSTERS
FRIDAY, JANUARY 9

As Jason Herman from DC Music Review says “It should be stated that this band is not a note-for-note tribute to the music of Jerry Garcia. What differentiates this band from others is that the performance embraces and is true to the original works, yet more readily welcomes the jam exploration by each artist on stage. The Jerry Tripsters were meant to be playing together.”

Better yet – it’s a co-bill with Totally Bowie so you get to enjoy the songs of two legends in one night!
