Guitarist Stanley and his new 4-piece unit spin on Grateful Dead expanding the harmonic structure and adding more jazz elements, preserving the original feel and flavor of the music, and keeping it trippy! Stanley’s Magic Touch album was an instant classic, and stayed at #1 on Billboard’s jazz chart for 51 weeks and he is widely regarded as the #1 exponent of the touch, or tapping technique on guitar.
Steely Dead’s repertoire is a carefully crafted fusion of Grateful Dead and Steely Dan songs, between the arrangement and precision studio recordings of rock legends Steely Dan, cross-pollinated with the Grateful Dead’s free-flowing, melodic improvisation and masterful song segues. Steely Dead merges these major concepts together infusing the influence into each band, all the while creating an original jam element with the song segues. Steely Dead’s performances are a musical journey that takes audiences on a nostalgic trip through the golden era of rock and roll.
“Loose interpretations of Grateful Dead songs done in a bluegrass style. Take my fascination with Grateful Dead songs and mix it together with my love of psychedelic improvisational bluegrass music and out burps this project.
WARNING: If you like your Grateful Dead songs performed in their original way, or if you prefer traditional bluegrass, this is not the project for you. If you like singing along to Dead songs in that song’s normal tempo but dancing double time to the music, this is definitely your jam. A lot of people seem to dig it and I dig them for that.”
On September 3rd, 1977, The Grateful Dead headlined one of the largest and most musically successful concerts of all time at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. In addition to the Grateful Dead, the show also featured the Dead family’s New Riders of the Purple Sage and the good-time, southern rock of The Marshall Tucker Band. This tribute extravaganza will feature selections from each band’s sets that day along with other deep cuts and original music inspired these three bands.
Grahame Lesh & Friends, or “GLAF”, has grown naturally into another outlet for interpreting the music he has been surrounded by. GLAF takes immense pleasure in reviving forgotten and unfinished Grateful Dead songs, working out alternate versions of Grahame’s Midnight North compositions, fleshing out songs written by Grahame’s brother Brian, and finding the fun covers that tie them all together.
As a member of Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Family Band and Phil Lesh & Friends, he has traveled the world, performing Phil’s updated version of the Grateful Dead’s sound everywhere from the famed Fuji Rock Festival in Japan to London to Newport Folk Fest to New York city. Phil Lesh & Friends and the TFB have welcomed guests like Sheryl Crow, Benmont Tench, John Scofield, Rick Mitarotonda, Nicki Bluhm, Dawes, Warren Haynes, Eric Krasno, Bob Weir, and many more onstage as they performed at venues and festivals around the world.
A new and exciting face on the JamBand landscape, Shakedown Citi was formed in the Shakedown lot at Citi Field in 2023 as the musicians met each other for the first time and knew there was something special going on. Each song is a journey that can take new directions, twists and turns at any time while still channeling the original style of the Grateful Dead. If you’re a discerning Head looking for a transcendental musical experience tapping an expansive repertoire and magical set lists – or you’re just looking to shake your bones – Shakedown Citi is definitely your jam.
The 17-year-old, self-taught guitar phenom from Mendocino, CA inspired by the Grateful Dead, Southern Rock, 90s Grunge, and even a little Bluegrass – Bella Rayne & Friends is a high energy, guitar-driven ensemble with a revolving lineup of all-star musicians that bring jam band twists to soulful originals and Southern Rock classics.
